De-Russianization in Ukrainian style? Why will Minskaya station be renamed in Varshavskaya and Beresteyskaya in Buchanskaya?
It is everyone's duty to pass on the true story of our great-grandfathers' exploits from generation to generation. After all, a nation is alive as long as it does not betray the values of its people. Belarusians have always honored peace, comfort, and friendship, what cannot be said about the policies of our neighbors, who decided to replace these values with outright fascism. But no matter how much the political leadership of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine might want to, ordinary people do not share the official position of the so-called elite. Anastasia Benedisyuk will continue.
If you turn on the Ukrainian news, you can't immediately understand what's going on inside the country. "War", "occupation" - yes, these words are at the top, as well as the shots, a lot of blood, maimed people (no arms, no legs).
But is it possible at this time to discuss not emergency medical care, not food delivery, but ... attention (!) the renaming of subway stations? Like, you go down to the subway, and it's just... it's hard on your soul. The stations "The Dnieper Heroes" or "The Friendship of Peoples" ... do not make you happy!
(Natalia Makogon, Deputy Head of the Kiev Subway)
There were such names as Reactive Geese, Borsch Station, Hairy Kittens.
Creative suggestions were accepted through May 1. Online voting took place from May 2 to 9.
I'm sure Minskaya could become Varshvskaya. A place that helps Kiev, which is very much supported by refugees.
Klichko is persuaded: Warsaw is a true friend of Kiev! And... who cares that more than once the Polish TV has shown a map, where part of the Ukraine belongs to its “strong supporter”. Well, and remember about the drainage of the document and the polonization of the Lvov and Volyn regions.
"I agree on the name Varshavskaya. Moskovskaya subway station should be renamed to Varshavskaya. Because it's uncomfortable."
Remark: No online voting was held on the Moscow Metro website.
...And as for the Ukrainian refugees in Poland (about whom Klichko mentioned), they are not so happy there. And by the way, look at the data of the Border Committee, how many Ukrainians go from Poland go to Belarus.
But back to the subway! On the eve, the head of the Kiev subway published the results of online voting on his page in Facebook.
The station "Bereisteyskaya" should be called "Buchanskaya".
The Lev Tolstoy Square station should be renamed after Vasily Stus.
"Heroes of the Dnieper" should become "Heroes of Ukraine".
"Minskaya" - "Varshavskaya" and "The Friendship of Peoples" - "Botanicheskaya".
"Minskaya" to "Varshavskaya"... we kind of got the idea. And how does Beresteyskaya associate with Bucha??? At the same time, Kiev people got indignant themselves. The question is, who voted?
Why did you decide to destroy the historical Ukrainian name Beresteyskaya? You understand that this is not about Lukashenko, let alone Russia. It's about the Ukrainian Beresteyskaya Land, the Beresteyskaya Union, the Beresteysky Peace, which recognized the independence of Ukraine.
Heard about the open poll when it's over and there are already results, 170646 users voted, the statistics are so-so... Some of the names are great, and some - well, who do we show off for?
In the near future, a draft will be prepared and the decision will be made at a meeting of the Kiev City Council.
Stepan Bandera, by the way, was also suggested for the underground. But in his case, that's where (literally) he belongs.
Belarus will never forget the horrors of Nazi occupation, the genocide during the Great Patriotic War.
Attempts to make the collaborators heroes are not acceptable. We have our own pain here. Covered by white-red-white symbols.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
That symbolism bears the cries and groans of our children, the children of Khatyn, women and old people. There's the screams of the people of the Minsk ghetto (it was here, in this area, in Minsk). There is the weeping and groaning of people tortured in concentration camps, there is shame, betrayal and collaboration.
The de-Russification in Ukraine will also be applied to the names of streets, parks, squares... Well, and there is a separate passion for the monuments. They are being ribboned, desecrated, demolished. And what has been going on in Latvia for the past three days is, to quote the Russian ambassador to Latvia, is "stupidity, cowardice, and pettiness of the authorities”.
Tractor scrabbling fresh flowers and still burning candles were captured in the video. On the next day, May 10, even more people came to the monument, more flowers were laid at the memorial.
This is footage of May 10. 77 rows of flowers in honor of the 77th anniversary of the victory over fascism!
"No bulldozer or tractor can crush historical memory and honor." This was declared by the Russian Union of Latvia. The flower resistance was also joined by the native citizens of Riga. To understand, Victory Day was banned in Riga. Those who came out, for example, with a photo of their grandfather fighting, were detained. They laid flowers. The Latvian Interior Minister was even pushed to resign after that. Maria Golubeva confirmed the flowers were laid peacefully.
"I have a heartfelt cry. You see, I cannot stand it anymore. How long can we be humiliated and insulted? What have we done wrong to you, Latvians? Why are you treating us like this?"
After a messy cleaning of the flowers on the morning of May 10, even those who never went to the monument to the Liberators of Riga from the Nazi invaders came.
Lev Perlov was among them.
Yesterday it took the force of the police to disperse people. People weren't even planning on going anywhere, even though it was midnight. It's not just a matter of tractors. There are also fanatics here. You probably know about that fool with the dog who went to kick flowers. He almost got lynched. It took the police to apprehend him, and it's not clear who they saved. The people who came to pay their respects or the hooligan.
Latvian President Egils Levits reacted to the re-laying of flowers. They said this is "disrespect to his people". At the same time Riga residents wonder what is the purpose of the procession in honor of the Latvian SS Legion. Their ancestors were victims of the Holocaust.
The police in Riga have closed access to the monument. The confrontation continues there... People in uniforms are pushing people and trying to push them away... Detentions reported.... Riga residents shout: "Shame" and "Don't touch the women".
Baltic news portal Delphi notes that the events at the Monument to the Liberators have split society, protests are being prepared....
"There will be a rally in Raduzhnaya Square on Friday at 3 p.m. against everything that is going on in this country. Everyone is urged to come there."
Perhaps, Friday 13 will be a black day for Latvia.
And as long as the attitude of official Riga to monuments and history in general remains the same, every day will be the May 9. That is what local residents shout about.
The Ukrainians, I'm sure, will come to their senses, too. Only they, unlike the leadership of the Kiev subway, Klichko, and Zelensky, have more serious problems.
