Requiem meeting held in Minsk at memorial plaque to hero Vasily Ignatenko

A tragedy that has been echoing in our hearts for 36 years: the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. A commemorative event dedicated to the anniversary of the disaster took place in Minsk. According to tradition, a requiem meeting was held at the memorial plaque to the hero Vasily Ignatenko. He and many other rescuers took the first and most cruel blow of radiation. They were members of the so called “Number 1 Line”. For his courageous and selfless actions during the liquidation of the accident, Vasily Ignatenko was posthumously awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

Active rescuers, liquidators as well as cadets of the Civil Defense University of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and young rescuers took part in a rally at the memorial plaque to Vasily Ignatenko, laid flowers and observed a moment of silence in memory of the heroes.
