Belarus President continues visits to regions addressing agricultural issues
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko continues a series of regional visits addressing the agricultural issues. The head of state will get familiar with the progress of field work and inspect the situation in seed growing in Smolevichi District, Minsk region, BelTA informs.
The President will visit the selection and seed growing facility under the Research and Practical Center for Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko will be reported on the progress in field work in the region and in Belarus as a whole, on the main results of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus efforts in agriculture, the work of the Research and Practical Center in providing the agricultural organizations of Belarus with modern domestic varieties of grain and forage crops.
The President is expected to visit the selection fields for breeding wheat and leguminous plants varieties and the production area of the Research and Practical Center for improvement of seed materials.
The RUE "Scientific and Practical Center for Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" is breeding 38 types of agricultural plants, producing original seeds of about 140 zoned varieties. In 2021 176 varieties of crops selected by the center were cultivated in the fields of the country, they occupied more than 80% of the sown area, and the domestic varieties of winter rye, oats, feed barley, buckwheat, spring wheat and lupine occupied more than 90% of the area. All registered varieties of the center successfully compete with the best achievements of foreign selection and have high levels of productivity and product quality: cereals - more than 100 cwt/ha, rape - 60 cwt/ha, leguminous crops - up to 50 cwt/ha.
