Belarusian Sanitary & Epidemiological Service turns 95
The sanitary & epidemiological service of the country celebrates its 95th anniversary. During those years it passed many stages in its development, but its mission remains the same: to ensure the epidemiological well-being of the population.
Today, 138 sanitary-epidemiological organizations form the structure of the service. By the way, the formation of such institutions was dictated by the need to combat infectious diseases. When typhus, diphtheria and malaria were rampant, the first vaccines in the republic were created to combat them. In the post-war years we managed to vaccinate more than 87% of the population against diphtheria and practically the entire population against smallpox. And last year, Belarusian specialists faced a new coronavirus infection. Despite this, our sanitary service quickly mobilized all forces to fight against Covid-19.
The sanitary-epidemiological service is also controlling the quality of food, from kindergartens and schools to store shelves. Also, specialists check the safety of drinking water. The atmospheric air in the city and working conditions of workers are also under control.
