Investigation Committee working on extradition of fugitive Belarusians

The Investigation Committee sent documents to the Prosecutor General's Office to initiate a request to Latvia on the extradition of Valery Tsepkalo. According to the IC, the defendant is charged with a number of corruption-related crimes, including large-scale bribery. Earlier, the Investigative Committee has already sent through the Prosecutor General the documents for the extradition to Poland Stepan Putilo and Roman Protasevich, the creator and former editor in chief of the Telegram channel, recognized extremist in Belarus. Minsk signed an international agreement with Warsaw on legal assistance in criminal cases, which also regulates the extradition issue. The IC notes that when deciding to run away, a criminal always believes that this way he will be able to avoid punishment. However, practice shows that this will not be possible, no matter where the offenders are hiding and where they run to.
