Mammoth tooth found in Gomel
A fragment of prehistoric history has been found Gomel. A mammoth tooth fell into the hands of specialists from the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble. A resident of the city noticed it in the river sand, which was purchased for the construction. The sister of Gomel resident (historian by education) recognized an ancient artifact in a find and gave it to the museum employees.
In principle, it's amazing that we can easily find the Paleolithic period in our sand and see it. This is a tooth of a woolly mammoth, it consists of 11 plates and it's completely erased. The mammoth changed its teeth 4 to 6 times in a lifetime. And this one got completely wiped out and fell out probably by itself, and then a new tooth began to grow.
Now the researchers carry out conservation of the find in order to stop the tooth destruction. In the future it will become part of the museum exhibition. By the way, the territory of Gomel had rich fauna in ancient times. Steppe mammoths, forest elephants, woolly rhinoceroses, cave lions and bison lived here. The remains of prehistoric animals are stored in the funds of the palace.
