Aleinik: Belarus ready to resume implementation of CFE Treaty provided that NATO countries return to its implementation
Belarus declares its readiness to resume the implementation of the CFE Treaty on condition of the return of NATO member states to its implementation. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleinik in his speech at the meeting of the CSTO Ministerial Council, reports BelTA with reference to the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
"We have repeatedly said that any peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and any discussion of European and Eurasian security issues without the participation of both Russia and Belarus are absolutely futile," said Sergei Aleinik. - The approach based on discrimination and attempts to exclude sovereign countries from the dialog on the most significant issues of our time is a path to nowhere."
"Against this background, the militarization of the entire European region continues," the minister said.
"The suspension of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty) by NATO member countries unleashes their hands to build up unprecedented military potentials. In the current situation, Belarus could not but take mirror-like measures in response. At the same time, we declared our readiness to resume the implementation of the CFE Treaty on the condition that NATO member countries return to its implementation. Although we have no illusions in this regard," said Sergei Aleinik.
