Agreements between Iran and Belarus estimated at $100 million
The relations between Iran and Belarus have demonstrated a breakthrough over the past two years. The current visit of the President to Teheran, already the third one in a row, will give a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation.
The prospects of partnership were discussed today with President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi. The Belarusian leader was solemnly welcomed at his residence.
The personal meeting between Alexander Lukashenko and Ebrahim Raisi lasted about an hour. Later, the members of the delegations joined the presidents. Relations between our countries demonstrate a breakthrough. For example, in 2022 Belarus and Iran traded for $100 million, which is a threefold increase. The countries are ready to reach a new level of partnership.
Presidents of Belarus and Iran signed a road map of cooperation until 2026
The negotiations resulted in the signing of the road map of all-round cooperation up to 2026. The agreement to develop and prepare the document was reached during the meeting between Alexander Lukashenko and Ebrahim Raisi in September 2021 on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
The package of agreements was also signed by the members of the delegations. The roadmap provides for comprehensive cooperation between Belarus and Iran in the political, economic, and consular spheres, as well as in the development of social and scientific-technical projects.
The agreements reached are estimated at $100 million.
"We have discussed in detail the level of our relations today. And we clearly determined with the President of Iran that there was a little pause in our relations. The peculiarity of this visit today is that we have successfully overcome this pause. We agreed on many things. The fact that we agreed on all the issues of bilateral cooperation for the first time and concluded a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding is also a special feature of this visit. If we implement all our agreements, I can estimate the total value of this visit at $100 million," Alexander Lukashenko said. - We agree with the President of Iran that sanctions are a time of opportunity. It's very important for us not to lose this time.
Ebrahim Raisi, President of Iran:
"Despite the threats and sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, we have been able to achieve high results and transform sanctions into opportunities during this time. We are ready to share our experience with the friendly country of the Republic of Belarus in this direction. Today we have reached good agreements in industry, trade, transport and agriculture. We are confident that these agreements will be implemented. The will of the two countries is to develop relations in all areas without exception."
