Lukashenko: Those, who sincerely wish to become our citizens, are always welcome in Belarus

On September 6, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting on improving the legislation on citizenship and amnesty.

"I have invited you to discuss the issues, which have become important in our society. They include the improvement of legislation on citizenship and amnesty," said the President.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the topic of citizenship is always in the spotlight mainly for two reasons. "On the one hand, we are concerned about the security of our state. On the other hand, respectable and hardworking citizens are the main wealth of our country," explained the President. - "We are always happy to welcome to the Belarusian land those who sincerely wish to become citizens of our country and make their contribution to its development."

About 14,000 people have been granted Belarusian citizenship for the past five years on various grounds. Moreover, each request for citizenship is carefully studied, stressed the head of state. Questions, requiring the presidential decision, are preliminary considered by a special commission.

Natives of different countries, especially of the former Soviet Union, aspire to become the citizens of Belarus. The natives of Asia, Europe and even America come to the country.

"Last August I asked to speed up the process of granting citizenship to Ukrainians for obvious reasons. Basically, these are our people. They have tied their lives to Belarus - they observe the laws, raise children, are employed, work well in agriculture, education, medicine and even science. About 5 thousand Ukrainians have already been issued Belarusian passports during a year," Alexander Lukashenko said.
