Lukashenko: Afghan warriors were an example of selfless service to mankind
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has sent an appeal to soldiers-internationalists, veterans of the war in Afghanistan, said the press service of the Belarusian leader.
Dear comrades!
Today, on Remembrance Day of Soldiers-Internationalists, we express our deep appreciation and gratitude to all those, who honestly and courageously performed their military duty outside the homeland.
As part of the limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan, our compatriots were the first in the world to defy international terrorism and were forever faithful to their military oath.
Dozens of years later, many Belarusian families have fond memories of that war. Belarus honors its sons who fell on the battlefield and mourns together with their families and friends.
We are currently witnessing how soldiers of fortune and mercenaries from all over the world are flocking to hot spots in search of profit. Warriors-Afghans became an example of selfless service to humanity, not only preventing the spread of extremism and drug trafficking for many years, but also creating conditions for the well-being of the population in the liberated territories.
Veterans of war in Afghanistan, like no one else, know the real price of peace and creative work. Throughout all the years of our state's independence you have been its reliable support, a good example for the younger generation.
I wish you good health, good luck, prosperity and a peaceful sky over our heads. May harmony and happiness live in your families.
