Minsk hosts international sambo tournament for prizes of Belarus President

These days Minsk is hosting an international A category sambo tournament for the prizes of the President of Belarus. President Alexander Lukashenko sent his greetings to the participants of the prestigious competition and wished all the athletes good health, spectacular performance and unforgettable impressions of the tournament and the Belarusian capital.

The coaching staff of our national team regarded this start as an opportunity to test the athletes' strength before the World Championship, the planetary forum that Kazakhstan is going to host in November. Today, our sambo wrestlers took 17 awards at Chizhovka Arena, including five gold medals. This year the sport was accepted into the Olympic family. It is expected that the debut for sambo will be the Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Belarusian sambo wrestlers invariably achieve outstanding results at major international competitions. Thus, last year at the World Championships our team came second in the medal standings. We brought back eight medals from the global forum, two of which were of the highest standard.
