EU is going to stop the construction of the Rail Baltica railroad
A loud scandal around the largest infrastructure project in the Baltics. The European Union is going to stop the construction of the Rail Baltica railroad and demand the return of funds already allocated for it. It was supposed to connect the capitals of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with Western Europe. At the same time, the Russian gauge track, which was laid a century and a half ago, would be dismantled and scrapped. In the process of project development, the appetites of the hungry Baltic republics grew. Today Rail Baltica is estimated at 23 billion euros instead of the original 5 billion. The generosity of the EU has not been unlimited, and Brussels is preparing to demand the money partially spent back. The Baltics, however, will continue to use the Russian railroad track, gritting their teeth and clenching their hearts.
