British and French ambassadors summoned to Russian Foreign Ministry
The ambassadors of UK and France were summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on May 6. This was reported by TASS with reference to information in the Russian diplomatic department.
It is noted that the British Ambassador to Moscow Nigel Casey was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He did not comment to the media either before or after the visit to the department.
French Ambassador to Moscow Pierre Levy also visited the Russian diplomatic department today. The diplomat stayed at the ministry for a little more than half an hour, after which he got into a car and left.
The reasons for the ambassadors' summons are not reported.
Earlier, on May 2, Reuters published an interview with the head of the British Foreign Office David Cameron, in which he said that Kiev has the right to strike British weapons at targets on the territory of Russian Federation. In his turn, French leader Emmanuel Macron in a recent interview with The Economist named two conditions for the likely dispatch of troops to Ukraine. In particular, he indicated that he did not rule out such steps if the Russian Federation breaks through the front line, and France will receive such a request from Kiev.
In addition, former Pentagon staffer and military expert Stephen Brien claimed in an article for Asia Times that France has already "sent its first troops to Ukraine," a group of 100 military personnel who are "artillery and surveillance specialists." According to Brien, the troops are sent to support the 54th Ukrainian Independent Mechanized Brigade in Slavyansk.
