Representatives of Belarusian and Russian diplomatic missions lay flowers at the monument "Bed of Honor" in Tashkent
Belarusians and Moldovans, Ukrainians and Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and Latvians fought shoulder to shoulder for our common motherland during the war. And we have not forgotten it. Not only Belarus remembers. In Uzbekistan, on May 9, local people bow to the feat of the Great Victory.
Among the locals this holiday is usually called the Day of Memory and Honors, the day of light sadness about the deceased, reverent respect and gratitude to the living.
Celebration of May 9 in Tashkent
A traditional flower-laying ceremony was held in Tashkent at the "Fraternal Burial Ground" monument. Representatives of the Belarusian and Russian diplomatic missions and the Orthodox Church in Uzbekistan participated in the rally as a sign of shared sorrow. In the course of the march, the delegations stopped at the monument to the Heroic City of Minsk.
Leonid Marinich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Uzbekistan:
Today you and I can see how Victory Day is celebrated in Uzbekistan. Thousands of people have come to pay tribute to those who fell on the fronts, laid down their heads for freedom and independence. I would like to congratulate all veterans on this holiday and wish them long life and peaceful skies.
The remembrance events are held across the country because during the Great Patriotic War, about half a million Uzbek sons perished on the battlefields out of the million and a half they were sent to the front. Uzbekistan during the evacuation became a second home for hundreds of thousands of citizens, including Belarusians, for example, the national poet Yakub Kolas, and representatives of the Writers' Union and the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences.
