Long-awaited premiere: "The Little Humpbacked Horse" at Bolshoi Theater
On International Ballet Day, almost fifty theaters around the world organized a marathon with a six-hour online broadcast of ballet art. The audience watched rehearsals and master classes. Our Bolshoi Theater did not participate in such an art flash mob. The dancers are busy with their first premiere performance of the season - "The Little Humpbacked Horse".
Yury Troyan, chief ballet master of the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus:
“This fairy tale is much kinder than it has been interpreted in some productions. Ballet should be light and airy, this is an important quality. But I don't think the language has to be very complicated. After all, this is a ballet for children. I hope that adults will also come to the ballet and find it funny. Children are the main audience.”
"The Little Humpbacked Horse" is based on Belarusian motifs. Rodion Shchedrin is literally our contemporary, in the 50s he brought the musical sketch of the Little Humpbacked Horse from the Belarusian fields. Somehow he spent the summer in our republic and was inspired by colorful melodies.
Today Rodion Shchedrin is 88. He gave his blessing for the Belarusian production by master Yelizariev.
