Response to aggressive threats to internal security and decisive measures to protect citizens’ interests
The President of Belarus has signed Resolution No. 1 of the Security Council "On Measures to Ensure National Security of the Republic of Belarus". It was prepared based on the results of the meeting that took place on May 18.
It dealt with issues related to enhancing the role of the Security Council as a collegiate coordination and political body in protecting the independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and constitutional system of Belarus, supporting civil peace and accord in the country, countering extremism, and combating terrorism.
The most important task of the Security Council has been and remains the consideration of internal and foreign policy issues in the context of national security. The activities of all government agencies in overcoming modern challenges and threats should be not only effective, but also best coordinated. Given the aggressive attempts to turn Belarus into, in the terminology of the United States of America, a "failed state," we need to assign new specific, vital functions to the Security Council. Such an expansion of powers will help ensure the stable and secure operation of the entire state and every individual.
Measures to ensure national security
The government has been instructed to prepare a draft law, which would amend the laws of Belarus "On emergency" and "On martial law", in order to create additional conditions to prevent and neutralize risks, challenges and threats to national security. In addition, the meeting approved a new draft regulation on the Security Council. After approval by decree of the head of state, the document will enter into force and will be published.
