Alexander Lukashenko says Belarus seeks to diplomatically settle relations with its neighbors
President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has expressed Belarus' desire to diplomatically settle relations with its neighbors. He said this at the ceremony honoring graduates of higher military educational institutions and senior officers, BelTA writes.
"Our families, our children, old men and women, our people are behind us. They believe in us. Their faith is our strength. And they react very painfully and acutely to all sorts of tensions, especially on our border," said the head of state, addressing the military.
He cited a very recent example, when the situation on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border became complicated. "I wouldn't say that it has aggravated, but it has gone beyond what it was. We noticed that the Ukrainians began to concentrate certain troops, including those removed from the front, the most trained combat troops, on the border area," recalled the head of state. - We did not hide from people. We presented this information at a calm rhythm and in a calm manner. But people were alarmed. Remember, people are always more sensitive, and they see a little more than we do."
"We had to promise people and respond. Everyone involved in that response deserves the highest praise. I'm very grateful for that. But the experience is that shooting is an extreme method. It is our method, we have to master it, but it is a last resort. We must always learn to negotiate.”
