Belarus not standing aside: Special flight with humanitarian aid heads for devastated region of Syria
A special flight from Belarus departed this night with humanitarian aid to Syria. Belarusian rescuers were assigned to deliver the cargo. It includes the most necessary things on board: canned meat, condensed milk, tents, blankets, medicines, warm clothing for children and adults. The composition of 25-ton cargo has been agreed with the Syrian side.
Alexander Khudoleyev, First Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations of Belarus
Upon the instructions of the President of the Republic of Belarus in accordance with the resolution of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Emergency Situations promptly formed a humanitarian cargo weighing about 25 tons, the volume of about 100 cubic meters and worth more than 1 million Belarusian rubles. The cargo is accompanied by a film crew of Belteleradiocompany.
Belarus is providing humanitarian aid to Syria for the sixth time. All in all, it will be the 80th event of humanitarian aid to 33 countries since 1999.
Mohammad Al-Umrani, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Syria to Belarus:
“On behalf of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic, we would like to thank President Alexander Lukashenko, as well as the Government of the Republic of Belarus and, of course, the Belarusian people. We have seen how the Belarusian people have lovingly collected humanitarian aid, and we have handed it all over to the Syrian Arab Republic.”
To date, the death toll in Syria exceeds 4 thousand people, but this figure is still growing. The most affected regions are located in the north of the country, including Latakia, where humanitarian aid will be sent.
It is known that the Belarusian plane has already landed in Syria. The Belarusian delegation is planning to visit the affected area and the field hospital - our rescuers will assess the scale of destruction and the amount of aid that is currently available to the Syrian side. Belarus is ready to send its rescuers to Syria. Thee emergency specialists will assess the scale of the disaster and its consequence: there are many bodies under the rubble, which threatens a humanitarian disaster, which is why the destroyed cities must be dismantled as quickly as possible, so as to prevent an epidemic in the affected areas. In addition to the specialists of the special unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which specializes in debris removal, Belarus is ready to send a field hospital.
