Results of EAEU summit - countries moving towards rapprochement
A meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council was held in Bishkek Saturday. The countries will continue to move towards rapprochement. And it should be made not only on paper, but also via some specific projects.
Thus, the heads of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia agreed on simplified mechanisms of subsidizing joint projects. More than 150 of them worth 270 billion dollars are planned. There is progress in the energy sector - the parties are moving towards a common market. The Belarusian side is a principled stalwart of the internal trade barriers removal. Only this strategy makes the Union resistant to external pressure.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
"The circulatory system of our union must be recovered by all means. I am talking about finance. It is already clear to everyone that the era of the dollar domination is over. The future belongs to trading blocs, settlements in which will be made in national currencies. Belarus and Russia have already moved away from the dollar in their main calculations. It is important for other partners to actively join this process. I believe that in principle we should not have barriers in mutual trade. This is the essence of the organization of our union. It would solve two major problems: provision of national markets with critical imports and coordination of exports of strategically important goods, especially food."
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus
"Neither contractors, nor carriers should feel any difficulties, so that the EAEU market became more attractive to third countries. Negotiations on free trade with the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Iran are already underway. As for moving away from the dollar and the euro, this task has been set for the union since its foundation."
