Lukashenko proposes simple plan of priority actions to make CSTO stronger
The CSTO leaders met in Moscow. The summit is a jubilee one. The Collective Security Treaty is 30 years old and the organization itself is 20 years old. But that is not a reason to refuse to revise the path which we have traveled. After all, the military-political alliance of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has proved its effectiveness.
The overall situation in the region and in the world is complicated. The CSTO should be a serious element in the modern system of checks and balances, and an active participant in the formation of a new international security architecture.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
“The unipolar system of the world order is irrevocably becoming a thing of the past. But the collective West is struggling to retain its position. Everything is being done, including in our area of responsibility.”
Each of the leaders spoke at the meeting. But it was Alexander Lukashenko who spoke openly about the situation at the summit.
The Belarusian leader offered a simple plan of priority actions to make the CSTO stronger. It should begin with the strengthening of political interaction and coordination. It is necessary to strengthen analytical work in the union. Such "think tanks" in each country should act synchronously. The focus should be on the prevention of all sorts of fakes and innuendo. In fact, this is Minsk's reserve for next year, when our country takes over presidency in the association.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
“Our enemies and opponents are systematically undermining our strong points and allied ties. And in this we ourselves are partly helping the West. I am sure that if we had spoken with one voice at once, there would not have been these hellish, as they say, sanctions. Look at how monolithic the European Union votes and acts, how strong their intra-bloc discipline is. It applies automatically even to those who do not agree with the decisions made. The question is who prevents us from using this resource. This is where we need to take an example from them. Singly, we will simply be crushed and torn apart.”
In their joint statement, the CSTO leaders reaffirmed their determination to continue to develop partnership cooperation in various aspects of military and defense building. Coordinated actions in the international arena will be stepped up.
Lukashenko and Putin agreed to a hold full-scale meeting in Sochi. Our President is currently on a working visit to the Russian Federation. The leaders plan to discuss in detail the entire range of Belarusian-Russian cooperation topics, as well as the progress in implementing the assignments given by the governments of the two countries.
