Makei: Belarus' initiative on international security dialogue will bear fruit
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held about 10 closed meetings, including with representatives of the EU and the United States, which were not covered in the press at the request of foreign participants. This was stated by Vladimir Makei at the online press conference. The head of the Foreign Ministry underlined that Belarus' initiative of the international dialogue on security will sooner or later bear fruit.
Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus:
“The very topic of the need for a broad-based international security dialogue is in the air. The President of Belarus put forward this initiative five years ago. Many countries, Western countries in the first place, are probably afraid of associating this correct and necessary proposal with Belarus. I think that this initiative will prove its right to exist. We will promote it at all regional and international dialogue platforms. I am convinced that sooner or later it will bear fruit.”
Minsk and the UN Secretary General agreed in their assessment of the current situation in international relations that "urgent measures should be taken to ensure global peace and stability." During his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Belarusian foreign minister expressed his support for the organization's efforts to overcome the global food security crisis. He drew attention to the possible role and potential of our country in this matter. Vladimir Makei also conveyed to the UN Secretary General a response message from the President of Belarus in support of António Guterres' initiative to provide humanitarian aid as part of the global fight against hunger.
