Belarusian Foreign Ministry: NATO expansion is a strategic mistake
"The enlargement of NATO is its strategic mistake. This is how the spokesman commented on the decision made at the NATO summit in Madrid to invite Finland and Sweden to the alliance."
Anatoly Glaz, head of the department of information and digital diplomacy, spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry:
The position of the Republic of Belarus on NATO enlargement remains unchanged, regardless of the direction in which this process takes place: to the east, south or west. The expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance, which has lost its defensive nature since the dissolution of the Warsaw Treaty Organization, is a strategic mistake, as it undermines the principle of the indivisibility of security and leads to new dividing lines on the European continent, to the growth of military and political tension.
The diplomat added that security (national, regional and global) should be strengthened not through NATO's military buildup, but through bilateral and multilateral arms control mechanisms and confidence-building measures, as well as through equal and mutually respectful dialogue aimed at eliminating differences, reducing risks and preventing the growth of confrontation in the military sphere.
