Alexander Lukashenko takes part in meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Conference
Minsk has a long history as a reliable platform for dialogue on resolving local conflicts, for example, meetings of contact groups in Ukraine, or the OSCE Minsk Group on resolving the situation in Karabakh. This time the organizers decided to move the meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Security Conference from the capitals of world powers to the Belarusian capital.
“We are not far from the nuclear conflict between global players,” underlines Alexander Lukashenko. If the world community does not have enough wisdom to listen to the voice of reason, we risk falling off from the edge of the abyss of a global conflict”. However, the demand for a peaceful dialogue, which Belarus also advocates, is high today. This is confirmed by the desire on the part of numerous foreign delegations to personally meet with the Belarusian leader.
Over the 55 years of its existence, the Munich Security Conference has seen and discussed many world conflicts, from the Vietnam War to Yugoslavia and the military reformatting of North Africa. The position of Belarus in such conditions is the position of reason, pragmatism and endurance.
