Lukashenko: The new Nazis want to forget our victory, but we must not allow it
The Great Patriotic War by blood sealed the brotherly ties of a large multi-ethnic country. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said this near the Memorial Mound Glory, taking part in the celebrations to mark Independence Day, BelTA informs.
"Today our country celebrates the main state holiday - Independence Day. We are welcoming it at the foot of a majestic monument. The monument constructed in honor of the heroes who liberated Belarus from the Nazi invaders," said Alexander Lukashenko.
The President stressed that the Mound of Glory is a sacred place. Here fierce battles rang out, thousands of soldiers and officers gave their lives for the sake of future generations. "Here the ties of brotherhood of a large multinational country were joined with blood. The fighters did not divide themselves into Belarusians and Russians, Ukrainians and Kazakhs, Armenians and Georgians, Tajiks and Kyrgyz, Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks and others. They did not divide the land into their own and someone else's. They fought for our Fatherland," said the head of state.
"We are standing on the place where the "Minsk Cauldron" was closed. Offensive operation "Bagration" is rightly called a triumph of the Soviet military art. This battle went down in history as a major defeat of Nazi troops in World War II. About 400,000 soldiers, officers and generals of the Wehrmacht and the SS were killed and taken prisoners. They were shown to the world. They were marched in disgrace on Red Square."
