President of Belarus arrives in China on working visit

Belarus will present proposals on the development of the organization and new directions of cooperation. An important point is the strengthening of security in the Eurasian region. In this regard, Belarus is known for its honest and straightforward position.

It was also announced that the Belarusian leader will hold a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of the states participating in the summit. Talks with Chinese President are expected to take place. The agenda of the talks includes matters of strengthening political cooperation, implementation of joint projects, and interregional cooperation.

Since 2015, Belarus has been participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an observer. The so-called Shanghai Eight is the largest union that brings together 8 countries – Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Together, they account for 60% of the territory of Eurasia. The total population is about half the world's population. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is not a military organization – it consistently advocates for strengthening stability and safety in the region and promoting economic cooperation.

Annually, key SCO partners meet at the highest level to use such a unique opportunity to discuss positions on the most important issues on the international agenda. Traditionally, at these summits Belarus not only enjoys the right to vote, but also sees the results of its own constructive proposals.

The interest of politicians, experts, and journalists is enormous. Among other major events, India and Pakistan will take part in the summit in the status of official members of the SCO for the first time. Belarus as an observer has a unique opportunity to be one step closer to the strategic alliance and the expansion of ties internationally. Also, this is the first summit after the United States withdrew from a competing initiative – the Trans-Pacific Partnership. That means that today, the SCO is the world's leading integration platform for economy and security. It is a synonym for a brand new quality of globalization. Against the backdrop of new trade wars, the SCO is also perceived as a platform that contributes stability at a time of yet another round of the global economic crisis.
