Alexander Lukashenko holds telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin
Today, on the initiative of the Russian side, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The heads of state discussed a range of issues on the bilateral agenda, focusing on expanding trade cooperation. The parties agreed to continue to cooperate in order to preserve the positive dynamics of cooperation.
Vladimir Putin invited Alexander Lukashenko to visit Russia in the near future. A possible meeting of the two leaders may take place in Sochi. Special attention was paid by the presidents to the promotion of integration in the Eurasian Economic Union, the implementation of previously reached agreements between the EEA member countries, and also discussed a number of organizational issues, taking into account the July 27 meeting of the Eurasian intergovernmental council in St. Petersburg.
The heads of state also considered the international agenda. In particular, Russian-American relations were discussed in detail, including the outcome of the recent talks between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Helsinki.
The Russian leader informed Alexander Lukashenko about the nuances of the meeting. The main focus of the conversation was on arms control and the extension of the treaty on strategic offensive arms reduction between Russia and the United States, which expires in February 2021.
