Meeting of Security Council held at Palace of Independence
The role and powers of the Security Council must be commensurate with the risks and threats that time presents to our country.
Alexander Lukashenko stated that at the meeting of the Security Council at the Palace of Independence. The Council consists of not only the security forces, but also the heads of the government, both chambers of the Parliament and the Presidential Administration. The Head of State especially drew attention to the openness of the Council's work: society must see and understand all the decisions of the Security Council.
Alexander Lukashenko signed the Decree "On the Protection of Sovereignty and the Constitutional System" on May 9. The document envisages transferring all powers to the Security Council in case of the President’s death as a result of an assassination attempt or external aggression. The decree came into force immediately after signing. It is aimed at preserving the independence and sovereignty of Belarus.
