Ksenia Sankovich: Participation of Belarus in the ANOC General Assembly is a good sign
The participation of Belarus in the General Assembly of the Association of the National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Seoul is certainly a good sign. This is the opinion of the Acting Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Ksenia Sankovich, who will represent Belarus at the event in the capital of the Republic of Korea, as BelTA was informed by the press service of the NOC.
However, Ksenia Sankovich pointed out after the first day of the General Assembly, it is still too early to talk about any serious progress. "Yes, we see a certain warmth and understanding, but the most important thing for us is to admit our athletes to the competitions. When we come to Seoul, we feel the support of representatives of other countries, but there are also those who create the main protesting force. These are some European countries. Their resistance does not contribute to the return of our athletes to the next high level competitions - the European Youth Olympic Festival and the III European Games. But in our opinion, common sense must prevail sooner or later. We are still ready for a dialogue and solutions to all questions," said Ksenia Sankovich.
The Acting President Robin Mitchell and Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg welcomed the participants of the Assembly. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, noted in particular that the IOC activities remain outside politics and that the present General Assembly united all members of the ANOC, regardless of whether states are in conflict or not. He also stressed that for the IOC, for the international sports federations and for himself, the principle of unity is important. The IOC continues to live up to its mission of unity and peace, the true principles of the Olympic movement.
The 26th ANOC General Assembly will end on October 21.
