Latvian authorities demolish their part of Friendship Mound
Heavy machinery has dismantled the Latvian part of the Friendship Mound at the junction of the borders of Latvia, Russia and Belarus.
The monument was built in 1959 as a symbol of the struggle of Russian, Belarusian and Latvian partisans during the Great Patriotic War.
Trilingual appeals of the partisans to their descendants were inscribed on the memorial plates asking them to cherish the friendship between the peoples.
