Success of Belarus in foreign policy format
"We will never threaten anyone, but God forbid they touch us," said Deputy of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich.
"The problem of our Western partners is that they thought they would impose sanctions and we would start developing relations from scratch, and it would take years. And our strength is that over these 30 years, our relations were already in a good dynamic process. And now we've just accelerated it all, intensified it, but we haven't started from scratch.
When the President showed up recently in Africa, he showed up there as a friend of Africa. He was known and respected there because he had been focused on this issue there for many years. When we start supplying our products to China more actively, to give a new impetus to the development of these relations, that's not a year's work, that's not how you work with the Chinese - that's 30 years of work. It takes decades to gain prestige there, and that's what our President did.
So this is our success in the foreign policy format. But we haven't changed our position in 30 years and never will. We are building an alliance with Russia, we will be sovereign and independent, and we will never threaten anyone, but God forbid that anyone should touch us, and that's our whole position.
Russia and Belarus consistently advocate pragmatic engagement with all the states of the world on the basis of mutual consideration of interests and the principle of equal and indivisible security. The joint statement of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the crisis of security and cooperation in the OSCE area made at the OSCE Ministerial Council in Łódź in December 2022 notes, in particular, the importance of de-ideologized pragmatic dialogue to resolve common security problems."
