US to offer Georgia support for refusing "anti-democratic steps"
The US will offer Georgia support for changing anti-Western rhetoric and abandoning "anti-democratic course". This was reported by Politico with reference to the bill of the Republican Joe Wilson. The document will be introduced in Congress this week.
According to the draft, Washington will begin negotiations with Tbilisi on economic and military assistance, including the provision of security capabilities for "defense against Russian aggression."
For the program to take effect, the U.S. must ensure that Georgia has shown "significant progress in strengthening democracy."
The same bill would impose sanctions against Georgian politicians involved in the adoption of the law on foreign agents, the publication notes.
