Ukraine's entry into EU threatens European agriculture
European agrarians fear that Ukraine's possible accession to the EU will lead to a disruption of competition within the alliance, writes L'Opinion. The EU is going to introduce a "green" strategy with severe restrictions, which will result in a 20% reduction in food production. Ukraine will be less affected by such rules at first, which poses a threat to entire industries.
In addition, Ukrainian agriculture will have to be restored and modernized at the expense of common, relatively unchanged funds. Due to its large area, Ukraine will take the first place in terms of the amount of aid it will receive: over seven years, it may need 96 billion euros, which means a 20% reduction in subsidies for other countries.
