Federal Security Service of Russia: Criminal case on armed rebellion is terminated
The criminal case over an armed insurgency in Russia has been terminated. This was reported by BELTA citing the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the FSB of Russia.
It is specified that during the investigation of the riot it was found that its participants had ceased their actions aimed at committing a crime. Given this fact, as well as other circumstances relevant to the investigation, an order to terminate the criminal case was issued on June 27.
On the night of June 23 to 24 fighters of the Wagner seized the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don. These actions took place after the head of the PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin stated that the Russian Armed Forces had allegedly launched missile attacks on the Wagner camps. Prigozhin's words were later denied by the Russian Defense Ministry and the FSB. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the actions of the Wagner PMC a criminal adventure. A criminal case was opened against Prigozhin for the organization of an armed insurgency.
The evening of June 24, the press service of President Alexander Lukashenko reported that he had held talks with the head of the Wagner. Yevgeny Prigozhin accepted the proposal of the Belarusian leader to stop the movement of PMCs on the territory of the Russian Federation. Later, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Yevgeni Prigozhin would go to Belarus, while the criminal case against him would be terminated.
