US budget deficit reaches two-year high
The U.S. budget deficit in August reached a maximum of almost two years and amounted to 380 billion dollars.
(The data was reported by the Treasury Department). The budget revenues increased by a little more than 8 percent, while expenditures soared by 3.5 times and amounted to $686 billion: this is the most significant amount in a year and a half. Among other things, this was due to the postponement of a number of payments from September 1, which fell on a non-business day this year.
Also, in the first 11 months of the fiscal year, the budget deficit increased by nearly 24.5%. And the interest payments on the national debt for the first time in history exceeded a trillion dollars.
