Russian language to be banned in Latvia

The Latvian parliament is considering a bill about the status of the Latvian language as the only state language. According to the bill citizens are forbidden to use any languages other than Latvian when providing services to the population in stores, transport and so on. The local media admit that the bill is directed against the Russian language, which is spoken by at least 40 percent of inhabitants of the country. But an unexpected mishap arose: what about Ukrainians who don't know Latvian? All information for them is published in their native language, which automatically falls under the ban. In addition, the new regulations will actually deprive Ukrainian refugees of employment opportunities.
