Instagram to be blocked in Russia
The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media is going to block Instagram in Russia at midnight on March 14. The decision followed the news that Facebook and Instagram temporarily allowed users to call for violence against Russian servicemen. The leadership of Meta, which owns these social networks, was condemned by the United Nations. The organization stated that it opposes any calls for violence and considers them unacceptable. Nevertheless, the company claims that neither Facebook nor Instagram will tolerate Russophobia, and the measure is an exception for Ukraine so that local users can "express their anger". The suppression of Russian media continues. One video hosting channel is being blocked after another. The channels subject to restrictions include the Ruptly video agency channel, the Russian Today news agency, the TASS agency, VGTRK, Channel One, RBC, REN TV, NTV, Moscow 24, and others.
