Moldovan authorities close 6 Russian-language TV channels
The Moldovan authorities are closing 6 TV channels. These are not only the subsidiaries of Russian channels with a local license, but also regional Russian-language broadcasters, such as Accent TV or Orhei TV. The reason for the closure was accusations of unfair coverage of Moldovan and Ukrainian events. The unconcealed attack on freedom of speech has already been condemned by local and foreign journalists' unions. Opposition politicians also demanded that the authorities stopped censoring information and suppressing dissent. As early as tomorrow, journalists of the media outlets are going to start a protest action. The informational terror of the Moldovan authorities has another aspect: hundreds of people will lose their jobs and will be deprived of a piece of bread in an extremely poor country hit by the crisis.
The EU continues the war on the media
The actions of the Moldovan authorities are clearly synchronous with the sanctions strategy of the European Union. Today, the content of the 9th package of anti-Russian restrictions has become known. A significant part of them is directed against journalists and the media. The main target of the attack is the RT holding and the Russian media managers. There are quite exotic persons among the victims of the sanctions: Dmitry Puchkov, nicknamed Goblin, was declared an enemy of Europe - he is known as a translator and blogger.
