Farmers sum up interim results of harvesting campaign
Almost 80% of vegetables have been harvested from the fields in Belarus. Due to the severe drought this year, some positions, such as potatoes, did not grow in such volumes as expected. In general, difficult weather conditions and abnormal heat in western Europe provoked an increase in prices for vegetable products there. According to the data of the European Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary and Poland suffered from drought more than the rest of the countries. For some crops, losses are expected at 20%, or even 50%. This is the worst harvest of vegetables in Europe over the past 40 years. At the same time it gives new export opportunities to Belarusian farmers.
If you compare the prices of vegetables in Belarus and other European countries, our prices are noticeably lower for almost all products. According to the statistics of the Eurasian Economic Commission we showed the most affordable price for four out of six vegetables.
