CIS Economic Council held in Moscow
Issues of economic cooperation were discussed at the CIS Economic Council in Moscow: digitalization, government procurement, reorientation of transport corridors. Despite the challenges and threats that come from outside, and sanctions pressure on Russia and Belarus, this year trade turnover increased by 6%.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the issues in the energy sector. It concerns the transition to more efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies. They also talked about the removal of barriers in the field of standardization and technical regulation. One of the important topics of discussions is the development of international transportation corridors that run through the territories of the CIS countries.
Igor Petrishenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus:
“Today we have approved and will propose to the heads of government to sign a document regulating aspects related to the functioning of the North-South and West-East transport corridors. That is, we have reoriented the flows to those countries and directions that are waiting for our goods that are in demand and competitive in the markets of these countries. I informed that the Belarusian side has ratified the law on the entry into force of the agreement on trade in services and mutual protection of investments. This is an important document. We have been working on it for 11 years. This year we signed it, and now we are talking about creating a monitoring structure to ensure the practical implementation of this agreement.”
