Lukashenko: Safety of BelNPP is number one issue
The safety of our nuclear power plant is the number one issue. This was stated today by Alexander Lukashenko, as he received the report of the Government and the Presidential Administration on the completion of construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
Since the first power unit was included in the united energy system, BelNPP has generated more than 20 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which made it possible to replace more than 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and save $650 million.
Lukashenko: BelNPP construction has been completed, safety issues are a priority
After the full commissioning of the plant, we plan to annually reduce the consumption of imported natural gas in the region of 4.5 billion cubic meters. This is also an environmental issue. Carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by 6-7 million tons.
"In principle, we have finished construction and commissioning work. The station is operating at full capacity, scheduled preventive maintenance and other activities are carried out, which is required by the regulations. The safety of our plant is the number one issue. There is nothing to repeat and say," said the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that even some nuances should be brought to perfection, and the Belarusian side has always made tough demands in this regard. "Rosatom should understand it perfectly well. We are a Chernobyl republic. Even the slightest indulgence in the construction of nuclear power plants is unacceptable for us. People will never forgive us. That's why we have such strict requirements to it."
