Lukashenko: Construction of second NPP in Belarus is still a debatable issue
The construction of the second nuclear power plant in Belarus is still a debatable issue. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with representatives of the labor collective and builders of the Belarusian NPP, workers of social infrastructure and residents of Ostrovets, BelTA informs.
"Three years ago, when launching the first power unit, I said that a historic day had come: the era of peaceful atom had begun. And today we are also a nuclear power in terms of nuclear weapons. And indeed, having received this beautiful facility as a gift for November 7 in the difficult year of 2020 and today the second unit, we did the right thing by creating this miracle," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
The President drew attention to the fact that the benefits of nuclear power are obvious: it will allow industry and agriculture to work more efficiently and make the life of citizens in the country more comfortable due to cheap power.
While answering the questions, the President noted that the possible construction of a second nuclear power plant is still a debatable issue.
"We should consider, where to build it. Probably, it will be cheaper here. Because, apart from the construction itself, the enterprises that riveted and welded units and assemblies have been built. Transportation is not a big problem, but it will be cheaper on site. But this decision has not been made, it is a discussion; but it is good that you realized that it is necessary, it is the future, then I will report to you and consult with you."
