Ministry of Emergency Situations issues license for operation of second power unit of BelNPP
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has issued a license for the operation of the second power unit of BelNPP - the decision was made today at the Board of the agency. It reported that the operating conditions meet the safety requirements. An addendum was made to the document, allowing to start industrial use of the unit. The licensing process of BelNPP was organized in stages, taking into account the stages of development and performance of works at the site, including commissioning by Russian organizations. When preparing the conclusion, Gosatomnadzor specialists analyzed not only the results of their control and supervisory activities, but also the results of all other competent authorities that submitted information. Now there is actually one step left - acceptance of the second power unit and the Belarusian NPP as a whole by the government commission.
Olga Lugovskaya, Head of the Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus:
We are under the serious control of the international community. The Republic of Belarus, as a newcomer, has accepted all the necessary missions for such countries that are implementing their first programs. We directly interacted very closely with Rostechnadzor (this is a regulatory body in the Russian Federation). Methodologies, supervision tools, approaches to licensing, and, of course, safety expertise - all these systems were built with the great support of our Russian colleagues.
