Minsk National Airport to serve up to 10 million passengers a year by 2025
This will be possible thanks to the next stage of reconstruction. There are plans to build another terminal, a multi-level parking and a railway to Minsk. Also, by this time the first runway will be reconstructed. Exactly 37 years ago, the airport was unveiled in Smolevichi District, and over the years of its existence has become a real international hub.
A. Lukashenko: The main gate of the country should belong to the state
The Head of State has repeatedly received offers to give the air harbor to a private trader. But Alexander Lukashenko refused and does not regret it at all.
Alexander Lukashenko spoke about this a year ago, when a second runway was opened at the National Airport. The Head of State personally attended the ceremony. But before, the President personally tested the new track. From it, the Belarusian Forge number one flew to the international forum in China and landed on it upon returning home. With the second runway, the country's main air harbor has found a new life
Firstly, it became possible to receive and send the largest aircraft in the world, including the Airbus A310. Secondly, and the most advanced equipment for servicing the aircraft appeared. Today, it enables maintnance and refueling even for transatlantic flights.
Minsk National Airport is ready for the next stage of reconstruction. The approval of project documentation is underway. The main phase of the reconstruction will begin next year and end in 2025. During this time, it is planned to build another terminal, open a multi-level parking and launch a train to Minsk. Then the repair work on the first take-off will also end. As a result, the airport will be able to serve up to 10 million people a year. Last year, the figure was only half that amount. But this is also a kind of record. Indeed, 10 years ago the passenger flow was only 800 thousand people a year. Today, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the airport is going through hard times.
Minsk National Airport: real prospects
Every year the number of flights in the world is growing. Thanks to the measures taken by the state, Belarus managed not only to maintain its own air harbor, but also, having built a second runway, created all the conditions for our airport to become an international hub. And these are not just fantasies, but real prospects. Experts assure that by 2035 the intensity of flights at the Minsk National Airport can reach 260 aircraft per day.
