President of Belarus demands to ensure reasonable approach to protection of domestic market
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demanded to ensure protection of the domestic market at a meeting on the development of the Belarusian industry, BelTA reports.
The head of state criticized the government and, first of all, the specialized deputy prime minister for the ugly work on the domestic market, stressing that it is necessary to ensure reasonable protection of this market. “We must protect our own market reasonably,” the President said.
At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko does not consider the absolute protection of the domestic market from imports as an option, since other countries will close their markets for domestic products in response. “We produce everything that is produced in large quantities in the world. Therefore, it will not be possible to simply protect our market, close the border and not let anyone in. We have to act reasonably. That is why we have a government to help industrial enterprises work,” the President noted.
The head of state urged to more actively defend the interests of Belarus within the framework of the agreements with other countries, including Russia.
The President pointed out that Belarus is now losing the Russian market for some traditional Belarusian goods - tractors and refrigerators. Although the situation is beginning to improve in terms of refrigerator sales.
