Zimbabwe to totally free from dollar by mid-2026
Zimbabwe will be completely free from the dollar by the middle of 2026 - said the leadership of the country. The Reserve Bank began to issue a new national currency. Zimbabwean gold will become within the next two years the only means of payment and will displace the U.S. currency from the national monetary system.
Today, dollar transactions account for about 80% of all transactions in Zimbabwe's financial system, including retail sales. The Zimbabwean gold has become the sixth national currency to be launched in the past 15 years. The government abandoned the previous money due to hyperinflation when banknotes with millions of denominations were circulating.
