А. Mukhin: Belarus must respond to the Western sanctions with countermeasures
Tightening of sanctions leads to the opposite effect. Everyone can see that it does not work. As experience shows, countries that impose sanctions lose more than those against whom they impose them. Belarus has a unique transit position and it can impose counter-measures against those countries that interfere in its internal political and economic affairs as Russia did in its time. Such an opinion on the sanctions against Belarus was shared by the general director of the Center for Political Information Alexei Mukhin with our channel.
Experts have pointed out many times that Western sanctions work without making much of a moral impression, which is what they are designed to do; they produce the opposite economic effect. Countries begin to diversify the economy, to develop industries that have not developed before, because there was no need for it. And I think this is the case of Belarus. When the sanctions regime was imposed on Russia, it turned out that those who impose the sanctions regime lose almost more than those against whom they impose the sanctions regime. You can look at the example of relations between Russia and the EU. Trade and economic turnover fell, but at the same time, the EU countries suffered much more damage from these sanctions, including due to the fact that Russia imposed retaliatory countermeasures. I think that Belarus, as a country with a unique transit location, has the tools to apply them against its opponents.
