A. Volfovich: The language of European diplomacy is tear gas, water cannons and stun grenades
The language of European diplomacy is tear gas, water cannons, and stun grenades. This is how the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus commented on the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border. A. Volfovich took part in the annual meeting of the Security Council of the CIS countries, which took place in Moscow. As the Secretary noted, the states of the Commonwealth are experiencing negative pressure in the field of security. There is a fierce struggle for spheres of influence in the region, hybrid wars are unleashed, cyber threats are intensifying, and a very difficult situation associated with illegal migration is taking place. The explosive situation on the Belarusian-Polish border suggests that our Western and European neighbors show complete failure, inability and unwillingness to resolve problems peacefully, at the negotiating table.
Belarus, as an outpost of both the Union State and the CIS in the Eastern European region, is experiencing the entire spectrum of threats. Any criticism and analysis on what is happening on the western borders of our Commonwealth, the Union State makes no sense. The language of diplomacy by the standards of European colleagues is tear gas, water cannons, stun grenades. Liberal-democratic values have crossed out the common sense. Migrants at our borders are subjected to humiliation. One cannot talk about this calmly. Of course, the Belarusian side is trying to solve this problem peacefully, in accordance with international requirements, referring to the relevant organizations. Let's hope that common sense will prevail. The Western diplomacy, European diplomacy, which is so beautifully spoken about from the high rostrum in the EU, is not totally lost yet.
The meeting also focused on the military activity of NATO and its allies near the borders of Belarus and Russia. Under the cover of the migration problem, the group of 23 000 people, including 15 000 armed forces servicemen, was deployed in the territory of Poland. 4000 soldiers are in the territory of Lithuania. Latvia suddenly began to conduct exercises near the state borders, the number of military personnel is 3000 people. This is a matter of concern.
