Aleinik about new retaliatory measures to Western sanctions
Belarus is preparing new retaliatory measures against the Western sanctions. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleinik in the program "Question Number One.
The Minister recalled that Belarus is actively working to minimize the impact of sanctions. Moreover, the efforts are aimed not only at the reorientation of exports, but also taking retaliatory measures.
"This is also part of the ongoing work. A number of decisions have been taken: the list of unfriendly countries, restrictions on technological imports for Western countries, and restrictions on a whole range of food products. This week it was decided to limit entry of Polish trailers and semi-trailers to the territory of Belarus as a response to the latest sanctions imposed by Warsaw against Belarus. Additional measures are being prepared, which we will soon learn about," said Sergei Aleinik.
According to the minister, Belarus takes these decisions "very thoughtfully, assessing the economic risks and economic impact first of all. We are absolutely not interested to shoot ourselves in the foot with these retaliatory decisions, especially economic ones, as the Western countries do. Because we are well aware that all the unprecedented sanctions of the West not only affect the countries against which they impose these sanctions (and the range of these countries is expanding significantly, today there are more than 50 countries: it includes China, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran. It's not only Russia and Belarus), but the boomerang effect on the authors of the sanctions," said the Minister.
"And the saddest thing is that the sanctions, imposed by Europeans and Americans against our countries, in fact, hit all the countries in the world without exception. These are not direct but indirect sanctions," said the head of the Foreign Ministry.
