Aleinik: Western countries still harbor illusions to defeat Russia

Belarus has always had an active position on security issues, we are doing everything for the sake of peace. Kiev, Brussels and Washington are simply "dumbing down" the negotiation process, said Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik.

"We have indeed taken a peace-loving line at all stages of this conflict, aimed to find a mutually acceptable peaceful solution to the conflict, said the head of the Foreign Ministry. - I'm not going to go deep into history, everyone remembers very well the agreements of 2014-15. We remember very well February-March 2022, when three rounds of talks between Russia and Ukraine were held in Belarus and then continued in Istanbul. We are really interested in finding a peaceful solution to this conflict and we will consistently pursue this line.

Unfortunately, the countries of the West have a different logic today, says the minister. "They still harbor illusions to defeat Russia, still promote the line of continuing the armed conflict, fuel with heavy weapons and implement policies aimed at weakening Russia. But this is an illusion that is absolutely futile," the official is sure.

We understand very well that today they are not interested either to sit down at the negotiating table themselves or to push Ukraine to do so. In these conditions, of course, it is very difficult to expect that the process will be restored in the near future.

Belarus has always been for peace, for a peaceful solution to the conflict, said the Minister. "And for us it does not matter at all whether the negotiations will be held in Minsk, Istanbul, Beijing or the Vatican, the most important thing is that the parties to this conflict should really be able to sit down and come to an agreement to end this conflict," summed up Sergei Aleinik.
