Belarusian diplomats in Syria are monitoring the situation in the Middle East and are ready to provide all necessary assistance
The aggravation of the situation in the Middle East makes people think about the safety of themselves and their families. Belarusian diplomats are constantly monitoring the situation, collecting lists of citizens who live in the country. And we are ready to provide all the necessary assistance to our countrymen at any time.
The film crew of the TV News Agency is working in Damascus and the surrounding area. Details from Anastasia Benedisyuk.
In Syria, they are watching very closely what is happening in the region today. This is a country in which there has been a war for more than 12 years. The military-political situation is unstable. This can be understood as long as you leave Damascus. It's a suburb. Here, the rubble is gradually being dismantled, people are even moving into the houses that have survived. In the Syrian capital itself, of course, you will no longer see such footage, although it is sometimes attacked as well. Syria is shelled on a regular basis. Belarusian diplomats monitor the situation in the Middle East and are ready to provide all necessary assistance to our countrymen at any time. This was told by Yuri Sluka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Syria and concurrently to Lebanon and Jordan.
"When we see that the result of these decisions of politicians are thousands of victims among the civilian population, and these are primarily the elderly, women and children, well, it is difficult to understand... Not even a diplomatic explanation, but even a purely human one. And the Republic of Belarus has clearly outlined its position at all levels from the very beginning. We do not accept not only the Middle East conflict, we all know this very well, we do not accept any military scenarios for resolving any crisis situations, only through peaceful negotiations," - said Yuri Sluka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Syria and concurrently to Lebanon and Jordan.
What is the current situation in Lebanon? Are all Belarusians under control? And are there those who have expressed a desire to leave the country?
Yuri Sluka - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Syria and concurrently to Lebanon and Jordan:
Traditionally, historically, Lebanon really has the largest Belarusian diaspora to this day. The appropriate work was carried out to clarify the data, when, through our existing sources of information and contacts in the Lebanese Republic, we invited our citizens to provide data about themselves. Every day the figure can change, already about 450 people as of literally last week. But this week we have already received a couple of calls. It is suggested in any case, if they have any concerns, please, while everything is calm, come back. We know exactly the name of this country, where you will definitely be protected, where you will definitely be safe and your family members will definitely be safe. The Republic of Belarus.
I would like to add that official Damascus condemns the assassination of the head of the Hamas politburo and believes that this event can provoke an aggravation of the situation in the Middle East. With reference to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the local SANA news agency reports. According to the ministry, the actions of Israel, which Hamas accused of killing, could lead to the ignition of the entire region. The department called the attack blatant Sian aggression and a violation of Iran's sovereignty.
